Diabasglasyr!!!!

JAAAA, det funkade!! Kolla! En vit grundglasyr med stigande andel Diabasmjöl. Såhär såg det ut när jag blandat det och lagt det på en provskärva. Jag är så glad och tacksam att jag fick lov att göra mina tester & köra prover i keramikverkstaden, tack!

 

YEEES, it did work out really well with my experimenting to mix a ceramicglaze with powder from Diabase. This is how it looked when mixed and put on to the testfragment. I´m so glad and thankfull that I was allowed to do these tests!

 

  I glasyrugnen smälte det ihop till en fin glasyr med bruna nyanser- ju mer Diabasmjöl, desto brunare glasyr. Som vi gissade blev det bruna nyanser, förmodligen pga den höga järnhalten. Visst är det häftigt!

 

After beeing burned this is the result. More Diabasepowder, more colour. It´s probably the high amount of iron in the Diabase that decides the colour to be brownish. Cool, isn´t it?!

 

 

Men hallao, vad är det att hetsa upp sig över, några bruna blaffor på en keramikskärva kanske ni tänker :) Jo, för mig är detta jättestort! Det har legat i tankarna ända sedan jag började med keramiken & det går att vidarutveckla hur mycket som helst! Jag har massor av idéer om experiment som jag diskuterade med keramiker Raimo Veranen innan han alltför tidigt gick bort, så jag hann tyvärr aldrig börja experimenten hos honom: vad händer om man blandar Diabasmjöl direkt i stengodsleran? vad händer om man lägger Diabasmjöl mellan små skivor av Bullseyeglas & kör som glasfusing? vad händer om man gör samma övning, men med små flisor av Diabas? vad händer med färgen om man lägger till olika ämnen i Diabasglasyren? om man blandar i pulver från Vångagranit istället? om man lägger glasyr PÅ Diabasen? Osv osv.. Experimentlusten frodas!!

 

Well, it might not seem like a big deal, but it is to me! I´ve been thinking of how to do this for so long. And I have lots and lots of more ideas to try, like mixing the Diabasepowder directly into the clay, to make glasfusing with Diabase in it, to add different substances into the glaze, to mix with powder from Vångagranite instead, or maybe put the glaze ON Diabase and so on and on. 

 

För att prova vad Diabasen tycker om att utsättas för värmen i ugnen har jag kört ett par med Silverlera på, för att se hur det uppför sig. Silvret fäste fint på Diabasen och den höll i bränningen. 

 

To find out what the Diabase would behave like if subjected to the heat in the oven I tried to put Silverclay on this piece of Diabase and burned it to see what happened. And see, the Silver stuck nicely to the Diabase and it didn´t crack. 

 

 

Våren fortsätter sin frammasch. Stackars krokusarna kämpade sig upp genom förra årets nedvissnade växter i rabatterna, så jag kände mig tvungen att ta ett ryck och ut och rensa i det vackra vädret. Nu lyser de små blommorna tacksamt mot mig som små solar.

 

The advance of the sping is moving quick. Poor crocus, fighting to get trough the rest of the withered plants from last year in the garden, so yesterday I had to help them by rinsing the old stuff of the bed. Nice to work in the beautifull weather and now the small flowers shine towards me like little suns saying thankyou.

 

 

Akilles väljer soligaste platsen i köket på mornarna. Mmmm, så gott den värmer!

 

Every morning Akilles finds the sunniest place on the kitchenfloor, that´s cozy he says.

 

 

Men nu måste jag arbeta vidare i lilla verkstaden. Infattningen till Diabaskulan som skall sitta på ringen har jag format klart & jag har lödat i en liten silverplåt i botten på infattningen, så kulan skall sjunka lagom långt ner innan det tar stopp. Infattningen håller jag nu på att löda på plats för att sedan fila till en snygg övergång. 

 

But now I have to get into my little workshop to continue my work with the Diabasepearlring. Next step is to grind a smoth joint between the ring and the edging, that I´ve given a bottom for the pearl to lean against.
